Monday Morning Fit Tip:

Oxygen promotes healing, strengthens your heart, speeds your recovery, releases stress and even BURNS FAT!  Make sure you’re breathing properly while working out!

CARDIO – Try not to hold your breath or take very shallow breaths as you begin to get tired. Breathe deeply and inhale fresh oxygen to your muscles.  Whether you breathe through your nose, mouth, or a combination of the two is personal preference.

  WEIGHT TRAINING – To breathe properly during strength training, just remember to exhale during the hard part.  Example: exhale when crunching UP into a sit-up, inhale on the way back down.  This will give you a bigger squeeze for better results!

STRESS RELIEF – Slow, deep belly breathing can help reduce stress and anxiety, or even to finish a very difficult exercise/workout.  Try breathing in and count to five while you draw the air in through your nose deep into your lungs. Your stomach should expand like a balloon.  Hold for 3 seconds and release slowly through your mouth for 5 seconds.  Yoga and Pilates classes can help you practice this deep breathing to calm your mind and connect the body/breath for great stress relief!
