Monday Morning Fit Tip:
BOOST YOUR METABOLISM
AT ANY AGE
WITH ACTIVITY!
True or False:
Your metabolism slows down as you age.
False! According to the Mayo Clinic, your metabolism stays pretty steady throughout your adult life. The reason it seems as though our metabolisms slow down is because as we age our activity level decreases, causing lower muscle mass, which lowers the amount of energy our metabolisms burn each day. Many people continue eating the same number of calories they always have (but are using less) and therefore they gain weight.
How can you avoid this weight gain? By staying active!
The more active you are, the more muscle mass you’ll keep or build, and the more energy you’ll burn! Keeping active can also help you prevent injuries, ease arthritis pain and even reduce cancer risk!
Try group fitness classes to meet others with the same goals. Water aerobics are great for low-impact total body workouts. You can do yoga for stretching and flexibility or a toning class for maintaining that muscle mass!
As always, we’re here to help.
Ask a trainer if you have any questions.
