Monday Morning Fit Tip:

AVOID HOLIDAY WEIGHT GAIN

Statistics show that over half of Americans will gain weight this holiday season and will NOT later lose the weight!  It’s easy to imagine how this happens… the loaded buffet tables at dinners and special treats at parties provide too many temptations.  Here are our 4 best tips to avoid holiday weight gain:

1. Slow Down…  Eat slowly because it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to get the signal that your stomach is full.  If you eat too quickly you could be eating long past the point where you’re satisfied – and waste calories.  Eating slowly will also give you time to enjoy the people and conversation around you.

 2. Hydrate…  Drink water throughout the day to avoid feeling extreme hunger pains.  Also try drinking a glass of water 20 minutes before eating.  The water will help fill your stomach so that you can consumer smaller portions while still feeling satisfied.

3. Walk…  Take a walk before or after your holiday meal (or both!) to help the food digest and to give you a break from the temptations on the buffet table.

4.  Focus on family & friends…  Thanksgiving is all about giving gratitude for everything you have and appreciating the people in your life.  Fill your mind with thoughts of gratitude and enjoy the loved ones around you – this way there won’t be room in your day for stress about food!
