They weigh the same (because 5 pounds = 5 pounds) but muscle is smaller, tighter, and burns more calories than fat!
HOW DO I BUILD MUSCLE?
Weight-bearing exercises build muscle. Use your body’s weight, lift weights, or join a sculpting-style class such as Boot Camp, Zumba Toning, or PiYo!
It’s actually just the opposite: If you want to lose weight, you need to lift! Strength training raises the metabolism and can lead to more fat loss than cardio alone!
DO WEIGHTS MAKE WOMEN BIG & BULKY?
We hear this all the time: I know I should lift… but I don’t want to look like a guy! Don’t worry, women have about 20 times less testosterone than men, so as your muscles develop they will become tighter and more toned, but not huge.
BONUS:
Building muscle fortifies your bones, ligaments, and tendons. This minimizes your risk of injury and makes everyday life easier as you lift, bend, and stretch!
